Cubs Minor League Wrap — June 22 | myMLB - Rangers

Iowa Cubs

Did not play

Tennessee Smokies

The Smokies continued their winning ways by devouring the Montgomery Biscuits, 2-0.

It’s really all about Jay Jackson right now. Jackson pitched five innings and allowed only one hit. He struck out five and didn’t walk a batter as he improved his record to 4-3. Jackson had a rough April, but the guy has been unhittable since May 1 with an ERA of 1.11 in 40.2 innings.

Center fielder James Adduci stays hot with another two hit night. Adduci went 2 for 5 tonight with another stolen base. He scored once. Left fielder Russ Canzler was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Daytona Cubs

The Cubs came back from the All-Star Break and swept a double-header by bludgeoning  the Lakeland Flying Tigers 10-2 and 5-4.

James Leverton got the win in the first game, allowing two runs (one unearned) in 5.2 innings. Leverton surrendered  eight hits and a walk while struking out two.

Shortstop Starlin Castro went 3 for 5 with a triple and three runs scored today. Center fielder Brandon Guyer was 3 for 4 with a double, three runs scored and two RBI. Guyer also went 2 for 4 with an RBI in the second game, so it looks like he’s found his groove after the demotion to Daytona.

Third baseman Jake Opitz went 3 for 3 with a walk and two steals. Opitz scored twice and had an RBI. Catcher Robinson Chirinos, shortstop Nate Samson and first baseman Jovan Rosa were all 2 for 4. Chirinos’s two hits were a double and a triple, and all three of them had at least one RBI. Samson stole a base as well.

In the second game, starter Craig Muschko got knocked around for three runs on six hits over only three innings, but Todd Blackford came in and pitched the final 1.1 innings of the game perfectly to grab the win. Both Muschko and Blackford struck out one and didn’t walk anyone.

Left fielder Jonathan Wyatt went 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Tony Campana and Nate Samson were both 2 for 4.  Campana hit a double and scored a run while Samson had two RBI and scored once.

Peoria Chiefs

Did not play.

Boise Hawks

The bad start for the Hawks continues as they were left in the dirt by the Tri-City Dust Devils, 7-5.

Starter Su-Ming Jung pitched well in his stateside debut. He allowed only one unearned run on two hits and two walks over four innings. Jung struck out three.

Once again, Hak-Ju Lee had two hits, going 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI. He also stole a base. And just so you don’t mistake the Hawks for the Korean National team, DH Logan Watkins was 2 for 4 with two RBI.

Seriously, though, there are only three Koreans on the Hawks. It just seems like there are more because they’ve been the best players on the team so far. Steve Wilson is doing a great job over there.

AZL Cubs

Lost to the Athletics, 6-4.

.

I have always been a big fan of Wilson, but I have to say, seeing stuff like this gives me mixed feelings. How do you think this news will affect the rest of the team this season?

Take a look at a clip of Wilson:
